4 perfectly intimate wedding venues in and around london
With the demand for micro weddings on the rise, and with many couples now considering a more intimate affair, I’ve selected some of my personal favourite spots in and around London to host the perfect low key occasion.
1. Woods Quay, Embankment London
A new hidden gem on the banks of London’s River Thames, Woods Quay is a beautifully designed building that overlooks outstanding riverscape along with some of the city’s most popular sites and locations. Founded by the Woods family, who have been Thames watermen since 1866 and still to this day run boating tours along with ’The Fleet’, an array of luxury boating vessels that sail along the Thames hosting some of London’s best private events, Woods Quay is their brilliant new addition to their ever-growing hospitality collection.
The floating pontoon offers guests three intimate spaces; The West Wing, Cormorant Deck and East Wing. Ideal for a ceremony, reception or private dinner, each space allows flexibility, on-site catering and private bar, all incased within an extraordinary contemporary setting. It’s also worth noting that this venue is ideal for not only the warmer months, but conveniently suitable for colder weather too with it’s cosy fireplaces. Up to 100 guests standing. Up to 40 guests seated.
2. The Glasshouse, Chiddingford Surrey
A beautifully restored glasshouse sat in an idyllic woodland setting in the heart of Surrey, The Glasshouse is the perfect unique yet equally charming spot for an intimate wedding or event celebration. Another good all-year-round venue, the space provides a blank canvas to really elevate your special day, not that it needs much! With the building being 80% glass, the natural scenery outside automatically creates a little bit of magic come day or night.
As well as your own woodland, kitchen and luxury accommodation for two, the venue also offers plenty of privacy yet all the connections to London that you need. Up to 30 guests standing or seated.
3. The Hoxton, Southwark London
A stone’s throw from the River Thames and London’s South Bank, The Hoxton Hotel in Southwark is ideally situated and accessible to all. The hotel comes with 192 creatively styled bedrooms, 2 beautiful restaurants and a rooftop bar, worthy of some of the best views in London, but my favourite part of it is the dreamy private Apartment made up of 6 rooms to hire separately or combined.
Each space is extremely flexible, depending on the size of your guest list, with the Apartment even coming with a fully-stocked pantry, all centred around a communal kitchen, come bar in the evening. A stylish spot for people looking for more of a relaxed setting with all the privacy one needs, along with a fully wrapped balcony just for you and your guests. The Apartment also comes with it’s own in-house catering and alcohol provided. Up to 130 guests standing. Up to 40 guests seated.
4. Wild by Tart, Belgravia London
Founded by Jemima Jones and Lucy Carr-Ellison, the successful partnership behind bespoke catering company Tart London, and Tom Warren, founder of Photography studio Lock Studios, Wild by Tart is a restaurant all set within a dynamic, multipurpose space. Previously home to a former power station and coal store, the space offers a relaxed, bright and airy setting with a collection of spaces to hire separately or individually depending on the size of your wedding or event. Aside from the main restaurant, Wild by Tart benefits from its own private air conditioned studio; A blank canvas with polished concrete floors, high glass panelled ceilings and plenty of versatile space to design and style a bespoke wedding or dinner. Up to 100 guests standing. Up to 60 guests seated.
The second space on offer is the private raised mezzanine, which overlooks the restaurant and bar. For something just that little more intimate, the mezzanine holds up to 15 guests standing or 14 guests seated.
